Sea Base Reminder – Time Is Short, Spaces Are Few….

Just a follow up reminder that Troop 108 scouts that are interested in attending the Florida Sea Base next summer (June of 2019) with the Troop 108 contingent need to contact Tracy Ross As Soon As Possible by clicking HERE.  A limited number of spaces are available, but ALL SPACES MUST BE FILLED TO MAKE THIS TRIP HAPPEN.

Since we can have No unoccupied spaces in the contingent, we will soon make the remaining spaces available to scouts outside of Troop 108.  When the available spaces are gone, they’re gone!  Don’t miss out on the fun!

The original deadline to get with Mr. Ross was by Monday night’s meeting (which is a PLC meeting), but it may be opened up to scouts outside of the troop prior to that, so don’t wait to sign up.

Summer Camp Payments & Merit Badge Selections Needed

Just a reminder that summer camp at Camp Bob Hardin is right around the corner. Scouts were supposed to have their first $100 deposit in by March 1st. If your Scout doesn’t yet have his deposit in, be sure to get it in as soon as possible.  The second $100 installment is due on April 1, and that’s no April fool!

Scouts also need to print out the merit badge schedule located HERE and write their name at the top of the page and circle their program selections and the day they would like to take each of the badges.  Some scouts may have already made their selections at last week’s troop meeting or took the page home to discuss with their parents.  Check with your scout to see if they have completed this already, and if not print this out and have them follow the directions above and return it no later than the March 12 troop meeting.

You may also click HERE to view the 2018 Camp Bob Harden Leader’s Guide, or visit the camp of pardon web page located HERE.

The troop will also be planning a tubing event down the Green River (just on the other side of the mountain from Camp Bob Hardin) on Friday of summer camp week.  This is always a fun adventure for our scouts and leaders.  There may be an additional cost for this excursion, and we will pass this information on as it becomes available.

Also not included in the $300 camp fee pricing is the cost of a Troop 108 Summer Camp T-Shirt (optional) which is usually around $10, $5 to help purchase cases of water to help keep our scouts hydrated during the week and $5 to help our scout leaders with transportation costs associated with transporting scouts and equipment to and from camp.

AHOY! Anyone Up For A Florida Sea Base Adventure in 2019?

Troop 108 has been awarded a Sea-Base voyage for June 10-17, 2019 in the Florida Keys.  Our crew can be up to 20 scouts and scouters with an overall cost of around $1300 per person, including travel, for an 8- day adventure. Scouts must be 13 or older and pass the BSA swim test in a strong manner at the time of check-in.  Please check out the Sea-Base website at www.bsaseabase.org/.

This is a rare opportunity to sail the Caribbean and have a great time scouting on the high seas.

Contact ASM Tracy Ross by Tuesday, March 6th, if interested or if you have questions.  The troop will need $100 per person by March 12, 2018 to reserve your spot.

Troop on Display Cancelled – Pinewood Derby Help Still Needed

Scouts who wish to earn service hours while having fun are encouraged to show up at the church fellowship hall at about 11am on Saturday to help out with Pack 108’s Pinewood Derby event.

No Meeting Tonight

Just a reminder that the “No School/No Scouts” rule comes into play for tonight’s meeting.  We will be meeting on January 22nd following the Polar Bear campout at Camp Conley Clarke (C3).

Congratulations to Troop 108 Committee Chairman, Steve Finch, District Award Of Merit Winner

Congratulations to Steve Finch who was selected as one of three recipients of the District Award of Merit (aka The Palmetto Award) winners at last night’s York District Banquet.

Steve has been instrumental in working with Eagle Scout candidates from Troop 108 on their leadership projects for Eagle as well as with preparations for the final Eagle Board of Review itself.

This award looks beyond what the recipient has done on the local unit level.  Steve has served on the York District Eagle Board of Review for a number of years, most recently as it’s chairman.  He also has served on the Palmetto Council Shooting Sports Committee for several years.  Many of the council’s youth leaders will remember Steve’s guidance and leadership from when he help staff both SEALS and NYLT courses in the Palmetto Council.

Again, congratulations to Steve on his selection for this much deserved recognition.

Happy New Year Scouts!

Scouts ~ May the new year bring you many opportunities for growth and development, character building, great adventures, rank advancements and memories that will last a lifetime.

We look forward to seeing each of you at our next meeting on January 8th where we will cover cold weather camping and cooking along with information about the upcoming polar bear camp out.
