The 2017 York District Polar Bear will be a fantastic event filled with fun and adventure. The event will be held the weekend of January 13-15, 2016 @ Camp Conley Clark (1192 Hickory Grove Road, Gaffney, SC) and is sure to be a fun time.
The troop will gather at Unity Presbyterian Church at 5pm on January 13th to load the trailer and leave for the event shortly afterward. Scouts should have eaten supper prior to arrival as we will not be stopping on the way to the camporee. We will plan to return to Fort Mill around noon on January 15th in the Post Office parking lot. Scouts will call when we are on the way home. This is a cold weather camping event, so plan and pack accordingly. You can Click Here for a past post about cold weather camping.

Troop 108 will hold its Winter Court of Honor on December 19th at 7pm in the Historic Sanctuary at Unity Presbyterian Church. Note that we will have a parent meeting in the Historic Sanctuary beginning at 6:30pm. We will hold a time of fellowship and food immediately following the Court of Honor. Families are asked to sign up for and bring an item to be left in Unity Hall prior to to the Court of Honor. Sign up for an item to bring by clicking HERE.
Courts of Honor are a special time for us to publicly recognize the work that our scouts have done during the past 6 months. This event is even more special as we will be presenting the Eagle Scout Award to Dallas S. as part of the ceremony.
We look forward to seeing every scout and their families at this special event.

We had a fine group of candidates running for the ASPL position this time and any one of them would have done a good job (and we hope that all of them will get their chance). In the end, congratulations are extended to Graham W. for being selected by the troop’s youth membership to become our next Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.
In Troop 108 we elect the ASPL who serves in that capacity for 6 months while learning from and assisting the current Senior Patrol Leader. After 6 months the ASPL steps up to become the SPL and a new ASPL is selected.
As a side note, because of the demands of the award winning marching band programs in Fort Mill School District, the troop adult leaders long ago decided that a scout that is participating in high school band programs can run for ASPL during the Summer election rotation but not the Winter election rotation. This prevents the troop from having a scout that has a strong commitment to the high school band program in the SPL position in the fall of the year.

Each year Troop 108 scouts travel to Gibbs Stadium at Wofford College in Spartanburg to help by selling programs and concessions at the annual Shrine Bowl game. This year will we will do it all again. As an added plus, we always stop at the Peach Blossum for a hearty roadside breakfast on the way down and top off the day with a gastrointestinal experience at the Beacon Restaurant in Spartanburg before returning home.
We will plan on leaving Unity Presbyterian Church at 7am and returning about 7pm on Saturday, December 17th, 2016. Be sure to dress warmly and bring money for breakfast, snacks (lunch is provided by the Shriners) and then supper on the way home.
Dress if full official Boy Scout uniform with a troop scouting t-shirt underneath. Scouts will be able to earn service hours to apply toward rank where applicable.

Click Here to Register your scout – Today is the deadline. Only full payment is offered as an option until the deadline.
The troop cannot afford to register scouts who have not paid their registration fee after today’s deadline. Scouts can always complete a BSA application and re-register at a later time at the same rate.
Today is also the last day to order Troop 108 Hoodies and Sweatshirts – See information below. Click HERE to use the contact us form to contact the Scoutmaster to place your order today.

The troop will be placing an order for the very popular Troop 108 hoodies and sweatshirts soon. With a deadline for ordering of December 3rd, we should have these ready for distribution at the Court of Honor on December 19th….just in time for Christmas!
-
Sweatshirts from Adult small through Adult XL will be $11 each (add $1.50 for each additional X for larger sizes).
-
Hoodies from Adult small through Adult XL will be $16 each (add $1.50 for each additional X for larger sizes).
Bring your check in the correct amount with the scout’s name, and what you’re ordering and the size in the note field of the check to an upcoming meeting (November 21st or 28th) or make other arrangements with the Scoutmaster to place your order.
The Catawba Masonic Lodge (directly across from Unity Presbyterian Church) is holding their annual dinner banquet this coming Saturday evening (6pm on November 19th) and are seeking our help with their flag ceremony.
If you’d be interested in helping with the flag ceremony for this event please contact ASM David Harllee @ 803-242-0468. It should take no more than two hours and dinner is included for those who are able to participate.
Our community is always very generous in their contributions of canned goods and other non-perishable items to our Scouting for Food drive each November. As a result, we need scouts to help with collecting these items from our generous neighbors so we can take it to the Fort Mill Church of God Food Pantry on Academy Street in Fort Mill.
We will meet in the parking lot of the church at 9am on November 12th and canvass the neighborhood behind the church where our scouts handed out collection bags last week. Remember, every scout needs service hours for rank advancement and scouts should be able to earn a couple of hours of service time for their efforts to help those in our community that are less fortunate.
See you on Saturday!

Anyone is interested in earning service hours should meet at the church at 9am this Saturday, November 5th to pass out bags for Scouting for Food. This is an excellent opportunity to help the less fortunate in our community by helping our local food banks stock their shelves in time for the holidays.
We will be servicing the houses in the Whiteville Park neighborhood behind the church. This should take no longer than 2 hours – depending upon the number of scouts that are able to assist.

Order of the Arrow members from Troop 108 who have signed up (or want to attend but haven’t yet signed up – $5.00 late fee) should gather at the church at 4:30pm on Friday, November 4th to car pool up. Please bring $5 to offset the cost of gas. We will stop to get supper on the way up, so bring money for that and for purchasing items at the trading post that will be set up at the event, if you wish.
The weather looks like it will be nice with cool nights and warm, dry days. Pack accordingly.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday.
