Eagle Scout Service Project Opportunity

eagle scout projectHarry M. will be soon be working on his Eagle Scout Service Project and is looking for scouts who need service project hours (or just want to help) to sign up using the links below.   The work dates are on November 7th and November 21st, 2015.

The project will add some needed recreational areas at the back of the building of our sponsoring organization, Unity Presbyterian Church for the church’s youth and scouts to enjoy.

The two work dates happen to also fall on Scouting For Food bag distribution and pickup dates as well, so the project’s work time has been moved to the afternoon so as not to cause scheduling conflicts with that important community service opportunity.

Both work dates will start off at 12 noon with a pizza lunch during which the project leader will hold a project briefing and safety meeting.  Snacks and water will also be available for volunteers during the day.  We will plan to work until about 4pm or 5pm each day.

Volunteers are asked to wear “work clothes” and to bring shovels and gloves.

Thank you in advance for helping and if you have any questions, please contact Harry M. at an upcoming meeting.

Troop Collecting Toys For Jayden Hayes “Toys for Smiles” Project

JaydenHayes_SmileScouts are also asked to bring one or more small toys (like the ones you would get in a happy meal or could easily hold in one hand) to share with Jayden Hayes of Savannah Georgia who recently lost both of his parents and as part of dealing with his loss is now on a mission to share toys with people to make them smile.

We contacted his aunt and she was delighted to have the members of Troop 108 collect toys for Jayden to give away.  His goal is 33,000 toys exchanged for smiles.

Please start collecting and bringing in your toys to upcoming scout meetings to be delivered to Jayden so he can reach his goal.

See more about Jayden in the video below.

Rail Camp @ NC Transportation Museum Registration

Rail Camp Header

Boy Scout troops will set up camp on the 57 acre property of the NC Transportation Museum on Friday night. Saturday entails a scavenger hunt and scouts will dedicate the afternoon to earning their Railroading Merit Badge.  Troops will also tour the museum and take a train ride around the museum’s 57 acres of history.

Troops will learn how a diesel-electric locomotive develops power, how to identify different types of railcars, the importance of railroad signals and railroad safety. Troops will also learn about modern railroad companies and planning a trip by rail.

Rail Camp is also a great opportunity for Boy Scouts to interact, camping alongside each other and working together to earn their Merit Badges. Flag raising and lowering ceremonies and a campfire program is also part of the fun.

Cost for the event will be $35 which covers the actual event cost and all three meals on Saturday.  Scouts will need money to stop and get supper on Friday on the way to the event and on Sunday morning for Breakfast/Lunch on the way back home.

Additional details like departure time and return time are yet to be determined and will be released later.

Scouts must register and pay using the troops online registration and payment system no later than October 26th using the link below.
